Homemade Ranch Seasoning (Vegan + Dairy-Free)

My go-to homemade ranch seasoning made with simple pantry staples and nutritional yeast for that savory ranch flavor—without buttermilk powder. It’s naturally vegan and dairy-free, easy to keep on hand, and perfect for dips, dressings, chicken, veggies, potatoes, and more.

Total Time 5 minutes
Servings: 12 tablespoons
Course: Seasoning

Ingredients

  • cup nutritional yeast
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp onion powder
  • 1 tbsp garlic granules
  • 1 tbsp dried minced onion
  • 2 tbsp dried parsley
  • tsp dried dill
  • 1 tsp mustard powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp sugar
  • ½ tsp celery seed
  • ¼ tsp black pepper

Equipment

  • 1 Measuring Spoons
  • 1 Mixing Bowl

Method

Combine.
  1. Add all of the ingredients to a bowl and stir until evenly combined.
Blend — optional, but this is what I do.
  1. I like to give the whole mixture a few quick pulses in a clean coffee/spice grinder. It breaks down the dried onion, herbs and garlic granules and gives everything a finer, more evenly blended consistency. You can absolutely skip this step if you prefer a more textured seasoning.
Store.
  1. Transfer to an airtight container and store in a cool, dry place. Give it a shake before using.
Use.
  1. Use anywhere you'd normally use ranch seasoning—in dips, dressings, chicken, potatoes, veggies, casseroles, and more.

Notes

Make it spicy:
Sometimes I add smoked paprika and cayenne when I want a spicy ranch. Start with a little of each and adjust to taste—the cayenne can get away from you quickly.
Why nutritional yeast?
Besides being something I actually keep in my pantry, nutritional yeast keeps this version dairy-free and vegan. If that doesn't matter to you, buttermilk powder works too.
Using fresh herbs: If you're using the seasoning immediately, you can swap in fresh parsley or dill. Start with roughly 3 times the amount of fresh herbs as dried. Don't add fresh herbs to a batch you're planning to store as a dry pantry seasoning.
